Real-World History
Toyota and Yamaha co-developed the 2000GT in the mid-1960s as a halo car aimed at proving Japan could build a world-class grand tourer. The car used a 2.0-liter inline-six with twin overhead camshafts producing 150 horsepower, paired with a five-speed gearbox and front-mid-engine layout. Production from 1967 to 1970 totaled just 351 cars, making it one of the rarest postwar Japanese automobiles in existence.

In the Forza Horizon Series
The 2000GT has been a Forza Horizon classic-class fixture since the 2016 Australia entry. Horizon 6 includes both the standard 2.0L coupe and a special open-top variant Toyota built specifically for the James Bond film 'You Only Live Twice' — only two of these convertible cars existed in real life.
The 2000GT Forza Horizon car appears across 4 entries: FH3, FH4, FH5, FH6. As a 2000GT Forza Horizon car entry, it sits in the D-class bracket at stock tune.
Tuning Notes
The chassis is too historically significant for aggressive modification in most fans' minds, and the in-game tuning options reflect that — most builds focus on tire and suspension improvements while keeping the original engine displacement. For Festival Playlist classic-class events, the 2000GT competes well against contemporaneous Jaguar E-Types and Aston Martin DB5s with minimal modification.
For the 2000GT Forza Horizon car, the most successful community blueprints share a few common adjustments: balanced aero, tire compound matched to event surface, and gearing tuned for the specific Festival Playlist scenario rather than maximum top speed. The 2000GT Forza Horizon car responds best when the tuner respects the chassis's inherent character rather than trying to mask it with extreme settings.
Trivia & Lore
A 2000GT sold at a Sotheby's auction in 2022 for over 2.5 million US dollars, making it the most expensive Japanese car ever auctioned at the time. Toyota retains roughly two dozen examples in its corporate collection in Nagoya.
