Real-World History

The Z 432 was the highest-performance version of the original 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z (sold as the Datsun 240Z in North America). The '432' designation referred to the Skyline GT-R-derived S20 engine — four valves per cylinder, three carburetors, two camshafts. Only 419 Z 432 examples were built between 1969 and 1973, and a handful of even rarer 432-R competition variants were produced for racing teams.

In the Forza Horizon Series

The first-generation Z appears in multiple Forza Motorsport and Horizon games, but the high-performance 432 variant has only appeared in select entries. Horizon 6 includes the standard 1969 spec for casual cruisers and a separate 432-R competition trim for players seeking the most authentic vintage racing experience.

The PS30 Forza Horizon car appears across 4 entries: FH3, FH4, FH5, FH6. As a PS30 Forza Horizon car entry, it sits in the D-class bracket at stock tune.

Tuning Notes

Stay in C or B class to preserve the car's original character; pushing into A class requires significant power increases that lose the 432's distinctive engine response. For Touge events, fit modern tires and a slight ride height drop while keeping the original suspension geometry. The S20 engine in stock form revs to 8,000 rpm cleanly, which is unusual for a 1960s production engine and worth experiencing without forced induction.

For the PS30 Forza Horizon car, the most successful community blueprints share a few common adjustments: balanced aero, tire compound matched to event surface, and gearing tuned for the specific Festival Playlist scenario rather than maximum top speed. The PS30 Forza Horizon car responds best when the tuner respects the chassis's inherent character rather than trying to mask it with extreme settings.

Trivia & Lore

Surviving Z 432 examples now command 250,000 US dollars or more in the collector market, with documented competition history pushing prices significantly higher. The S20 engine shared its block design with the same powerplant used in the 1969 Skyline GT-R Hakosuka.
