Real-World History

Mitsubishi released the Evolution VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition in 1999 to celebrate the Finnish driver's four consecutive World Rally Championship titles with the manufacturer's team. The TME variant featured a special quick-spool turbocharger, recalibrated all-wheel-drive system, lighter forged wheels, and a unique Passion Red paint option commemorating Mäkinen's national colors. Production was limited to 2,500 examples, making it the rarest Evolution variant before the Final Edition.

In the Forza Horizon Series

The Evo VI TME has appeared in most Forza Horizon entries as the spiritual peak of the rally-bred Lancer line. Horizon 6 includes the TME alongside the standard Evolution VI GSR and the later Evolution VIII MR, letting players experience the variant differences directly through tuning comparisons.

The Evo VI TME Forza Horizon car appears across 4 entries: FH3, FH4, FH5, FH6. As a Evo VI TME Forza Horizon car entry, it sits in the A-class bracket at stock tune.

Tuning Notes

The all-wheel-drive layout is the chassis's strength; preserve it for circuit and rally builds rather than converting to rear-wheel drive. The 4G63T engine tolerates power increases up to 400 horsepower with stock internals if oil and intercooler upgrades are added simultaneously. For Cross Country events, fit the largest off-road tire option and raised suspension; the rally DNA shines on dirt stages.

For the Evo VI TME Forza Horizon car, the most successful community blueprints share a few common adjustments: balanced aero, tire compound matched to event surface, and gearing tuned for the specific Festival Playlist scenario rather than maximum top speed. The Evo VI TME Forza Horizon car responds best when the tuner respects the chassis's inherent character rather than trying to mask it with extreme settings.

Trivia & Lore

Tommi Mäkinen's actual rally cars from the 1996-1999 seasons are housed in Mitsubishi's heritage collection in Okazaki, Japan, with the road-going TME considered the closest production approximation of those competition vehicles.
